Hey there! Let’s talk about a super simple way to boost your artistic eye—a method I’ve been using for a while now that really works. It’s easy, fun, and doesn’t require any fancy tools or skills, just a bit of time and determination. So, if you’re ready to take your creative instincts to the next level, let’s dive in.
Step 1: Take a Picture of Something You Like time
The first step is as simple as it sounds: take a picture of something you genuinely like. This can be anything: a street scene, the way light hits a wall, a pen on a desk, or even a cozy corner of your home. Don’t worry about making it perfect or professional. That’s not the goal here. The point is to capture something that sparks a bit of joy or interest for you.
Step 2: Analyse and Get Curious
Now that you have your picture, spend a moment analyzing it. What do you like about it? Get curious. Identify three specific things that stand out to you. Let’s use one of my examples: I took a random photo of a building in the city, and here’s what I noticed:
I loved the pastel colors.
I liked the city vibe.
I appreciated the minimalistic look—there wasn’t much going on, just the building.

What you’re doing here is pinpointing the elements that resonate with you, which will guide the next steps.
Step 3: Explore Pinterest
Here’s where it gets really fun. Take the three things you listed about your picture and type them into Pinterest. In my case, I searched for “pastel color minimalist pictures” or something similar. Start browsing and creating a folder (or board) to save all the images you find interesting.
This step is crucial. By doing this collection of images based on what you like, you’re training your brain to notice these elements more. You’ll naturally start picking up on patterns, learning about composition, and understanding how certain colors and styles work together. And trust me, this part is so satisfying—you’ll discover tons of inspiration!
Step 4: Build Your Creative Library
Make this a daily habit. Spend just 10 minutes a day pinning images to your library. Over time, you’ll build a treasure trove of visuals that reflect your unique tastes and preferences. And the best part? You’re subtly but powerfully training your brain to think more creatively.
By regularly exposing yourself to these styles and ideas, you’ll start seeing opportunities to incorporate them into your own work—whether it’s photography, art, design, or even just how you decorate your space.
Step 5: Apply What You’ve Learned
Now, it’s time to put all that inspiration to use. Take another picture, this time with your newly discovered style elements in mind. You’ll start noticing how much your eye has developed and how your creativity has expanded. It’s amazing to see how these small daily actions can lead to big improvements.
The picture I started with above became the foundation, and after a year of using this method to train my brain, I now take pictures that have a unified style reflecting what I like.
Final Thoughts
And that’s it! A simple yet effective way to develop your creativity: take a picture, analyze what you love about it, explore similar ideas on Pinterest, and build a library of inspiration. Remember, it’s all about consistency. With just a little bit of effort each day, you’ll be amazed at how far you can go.
So, grab your camera (or phone) and start snapping. Your creativity journey is waiting for you. Have fun and enjoy the process!
